This course provides an overview of different capacity assessments, such as the Drivers Best Practices Assessment and the District Capacity Assessment, and instructions on the administration process.
Various tools can be used to assess different capacity levels in the system. The table below outlines several examples of organizational capacity tools, including the type(s) of capacity assessed, the assessment method used, and links to the tools, if available. Check with the program or practice developers for innovation/approach-specific capacity assessments such as knowledge assessments after training, observation tools of the practice or program being delivered or in use, etc.
The primary purpose of the State Capacity Assessment (SCA) is to assist state agency, regional education agencies, and school districts implement effective innovations that benefit students. (v26)
The Regional Capacity Assessment (RCA) was developed to assist regional education agencies in their efforts to effectively support districts in their use of practices supported by evidence or effective innovations. (v2.1)
The DCA is an action assessment designed to help educational district leaders and staff better align resources with intended outcomes and develop action plans to support the use of effective innovations. Both the training and tool are available online.

The Implementation Support Practitioner Core Competencies Self-Assessment and Goal Setting Kit contains two documents to assist Implementation Specialists in identifying their strengths and growth opportunities. One document is a self-assessment that allows individuals to reflect on their skills with each core competency. Once complete, the planning templates provide space to define personal goals and action planning to improve.
The purpose of the Drivers Best Practices Assessment (DBPA) is to assist organizations in assessing their current supports and resources for quality use of selected programs or practices.
After completing this lesson, you will be able to identify the four types of organizational capacity and examine your organization's capacity level. Additionally, using this information will support your efforts in changing processes and structures to address capacity, support team members in identifying and addressing barriers, and promote collaborations and partnerships.
